“Please teach me to play the piano.” 「ピアノを教えてください。」

“My father taught me to be kind to animals.” 「父から動物に優しくすることを学んだ。」


When someone teaches you something, you don’t just gain information. You gain a skill or understanding. Contrast this with “tell”, which is used when someone gives you simple information, e.g. “My father told me the dog was in the yard.”
